Jeneece Place
June 3rd, 2011 • Victoria
$25,000 Donation In keeping with the Tom Harris Cellular philosophy of giving back to the community, Tom Harris is proud to announce a donation of $25,000 to Jeneece Place. Located in Victoria, Jeneece Place will become a home away from home for children and their families from central and northern Vancouver Island who must travel to Victoria for specialized treatment and care, often involving extended stays. Spearheading the construction of Jeneece Place is Jeneece Edroff, a teenage girl who was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis at the age of three. Spending sometimes days in doctors’ offices and hospitals, she still continues to undergo treatments and surgeries allowing her to attend school and spend time with her family and friends. Jeneece has set herself an ambitious goal, but she has proven over and over again that she can achieve anything she sets her mind to. For more information on Jeneece and the work she is doing to improve the lives of children in BC please visit jeneeceplace.org.
Tom Harris said “we’re excited to be able to help such a worthy cause as Jeneece Place and of course Jeneece herself”. Tom explained that this donation from Tom Harris Cellular “Will help Jeneece, who has worked tirelessly for her entire life to turn her incredible dream into a reality”
TELUS Van Isle 360 International Yacht Race
June 3rd, 2011 • Nanaimo
Tom Harris has had a long history of supporting the Van Isle 360 Yacht Race. The first organized yacht race around Vancouver Island was called "Coast Hotels Around the Island Race. It was developed in 1986 by a couple of long haired, bearded, multihull sailors.
The race was very similar to today's Van Isle 360° except that it took place over eight legs instead of ten. Yachts were also encouraged to seek sponsorship and Wayne Gorrie's catamaran 'Solar Heat' was sponsored by the General Motors dealer 'Tom Harris Chevrolet Cadillac'.
The Van Isle 360 has now grown to over 40 competitors and has gained international attention from some of the finest sailors in the world. In the spirt of that first groundbreaking race, Tom Harris is once again proud to support this incredible Vancouver Island showcase event.
